Michael Beamish, Captain of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, said: “The Club would like to congratulate Ashleigh Buhai on winning this year’s AIG Women’s Open. It has been an honour and a privilege to welcome the world’s best women golfers to Muirfield and to see the crowds enjoying some exceptional golf and a fantastic, nail-biting conclusion.

“We would also like to congratulate AIG and The R&A for organising such a successful event which has been enjoyed by fans not only here in Scotland but around the world.

“We hope this week’s Championship has inspired a future generation of women golfers and would like to wish Walton Heath Golf Club the best of luck in hosting next year’s AIG Women’s Open.

Ashleigh Buhai bravely overcame a nightmarish triple-bogey on the 15th to claim a hugely dramatic victory in the AIG Women’s Open, defeating In Gee Chun on the fourth hole of an extraordinary sudden-death play-off at Muirfield.
